Subject: RE: Cat Challenger 65???

a lot of those air filled front tires were filled with foam to make them solid tires instead of squishy. there should be a spot on the flat part of wheel where they allowed foam to come out to make sure tire was full. Or I guess you could see if air comes out the valve stem :-). The C series after about serial 500 had the solid steel front idlers and undercarriage was updated to timken bearings in oil on everything instead of original greased pins at pivots and bronze bushings in oil in the small bogey wheels. The bushings didn't like high speed travel down roads. If I remember right the bogey wheels with timkens are tapered on inside half of roller toward undercarriage rather than cylindrical which had bushings.
