Weed growth between early f.c. & planting is tyhe main reason we try to keep the planter fairly close behind the planter. We have found when we work the ground early, week or two ahead of planting, we usually have to spray earlier than intended resulting in a 2nd post spray. as we are in a total post spray program. Other problem that occurs at times in this area is if you don't seal the ground back down right away with th planter high winds & temps will dry the ground out resulting in no moisture to germinate the seed. Seems like every year we have a week to 10 days of this type of weather in the spring.

If not for the above I would prefer to plant in a stale seed bed. For one, you know exactly where the moisture level is. The other is that we seem to get more even of a planting depth
