Central Kansas
Wheat must be behind in a lot of places. I've got 1000 head cattle I started for guys that were supposed to start going to Oklahoma for wheat pasture the first week of November. They call Friday and say it will be thanksgiving at the earliest before it is ready. I'm full and the next set is already booked to come in behind these to get started. I'm looking at turning a dryland quarter that has triticale planted on it (that is way behind and not looking like very good grazing) into a giant dry lot and just feeding these calves. That way the pens will be open for the fresh calves coming in. I've gotten 3 calls today from local guys wanting to know if I have any triticale or wheat big enough to graze because they can't find any and their pens are full with more cattle coming. I think maybe I should go out and buy more hay because we maybe feeding way more than I had planned on.
