That is not what he was arguing.He said the income was taxed at higher rate then than it is now.All the things you are concerned about are deductible-at least partially.
And my point still stands, by the time you pass your money through all of the other tax hurdles nowadays there is rarely enough left over for it to be relevant what the top bracket is.
