One thing that I and probably many other notillers really like is the way the planters work in a true no till situation and usually crusting isn't a problem. The trouble we run into is getting the soil warm earlier. Well Ron I think you have found my secret to a quick start till early and let 'er sit for a week or two then you can plant like it's not till and have warm ground to do it in. In fact it is best to get a rain on it I have found between FC and planting. We have very very rarely had emergence problems doing this. When we used to be just hours to day behind the FC the moisture was still on top and then the topsoil dries after you plant and boom crust. Works great both corn on corn and corn on beans. The one and only problem I have found is you need a burndown just like no till so we've been using Fieldmaster and it works great!
