EC Nebraska | No this doesn't happen every year somewhere to this extent. This is somewhat unprecedented. As of last Monday only 26 percent of the corn crop was harvested. After 3 days of 50 mph winds across the state every field left has ears on the ground. Yes, some hybrids are worse than others. My fields left to harvest have anywhere from 10 to 30 bu on the ground. There are some hybrid numbers where loses exceed 50 bu. The real question is will the USDA actual be credible and actually show this loss. Being conservative and saying a 10 to 15 bu loss on 2/3rds of the unharvested acres would translate into at least in a 5 to 8 bu decrease in Nebraska's corn yield. I have never seen anything like this in my farming career. | |
