Custer County, Nebraska
Back in 2012 when this happened, guys baled the stalks or raked them into a windrow and used an edible bean pickup header to harvest.

The draper header worked to an extent, but those guys paid for it with the wear on the machines and the dockage for foreign material. I remember a story of a guy with 50% fm after harvesting that way.

A lot of these acres have cattle graze them after harvest. Way to much corn out there to safely do it... and this might be a very large area. Those cows are coming off pasture around the 1st of November with nowhere to go 1) because it isn't picked, and 2) because it has too much corn on the ground.
