Subject: weaned cattle feeding question

We weaned our calves 10 days ago and they appear to be doing well. I'm feeding them ground shelled corn mixed with oats and a Kents pellet fixed together. They also get free choice hay. They weight in that 450-600 lbs range and I'm feeding 5lbs per head per day. My question is that they seem like they aren't getting enough, bawling later in the day, so forth . We feed them all the grain in the morning. Am i doing something wrong, not enough grain, split my feedings, just looking for so insight. Was told to feed about 1 pound of grain per hundred. Thanks
