Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | You may want to dig a deeper border, around the pad. Think about tractors, manure spreaders and such, going from concrete to dirt/mud/manure and those edges need to be deeper and thicker. If not, they will break off and crack the corners or edges of the flat concrete, if you don't have good, thick support on the edges. Plus cattle will "work" the dirt away, from edges also. Think about the rain water, from the concrete, goes right to the edge, also; then softens the surrounding dirt/base.
