![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=16655&type=profile&rnd=746) NW Iowa | I had 2 cows this year that I grafted calves onto. In the chute morning and night, let the calf suck. Dosed with calf claim powder, spray deodorant, etc. Took a couple of weeks but finally both took. Takes patience.
Last year I had a couple that I worked with for probably 3 or 4 weeks...this King I'd break their will...ended up getting tired of messing with them and turned them both out. One calf swapped cows and sucked just fine, the other was so so but stole enough to be fine. Cows are funny like that.
Keep at it in the chute, don't give up. Most here say pull the small calf and put on a bottle...I've had 2-3 sets of twins the past 3 years and never pulled a calf and the cow gets along fine. Calves look much better too than being on the bottle...jmo | |
