Even with the wheels they can over-consume. Years ago I worked with this idea pretty diligently. The product was Mol-Mix from Cargil (before they sold that division to Westway). Anyway I performed the tedious task of securing "lick-limiters" they supplied (and I even modified) to the wheels (four/tank) to reduce consumption. They were still able to get about 6 lbs per day. Subsequently I went to limit feeding the stuff by pouring/soaking it into round bales. Which doesn't help if the cattle are still on pasture!
As the quality of my forage has improved and the price of the supplement has increased I use much less of the stuff. When I tried the lick tubs it was around 8 cents per pound.... My experience. |
