Central Texas | Has been very dry around here for over 2 months and little rain in forecast for next few months with La NiƱa pending. Oats look awful and not able to stockpile much grass. In order to make sure have enough feed for the MOCGA cows thru winter I spent a few $100 to buy several loads of cotton gin trash. If little rain, the gin trash will be fine out in the open and provide an inexpensive roughage source for feeding cows. If get enough rain to ruin the gin trash will be able to grow grass so a winner either way. Also bought 60 more rolls of hay. Cows just getting started eating the gin trash along with waste silage and a corn gluten/soy hull mix. FWIW-one of my rules is never run out of feed and this is my plan to follow that rule.
