south central kansas
The long term future aside, which is interesting to think about, this farm has 9 salaried people and the owner it is supporting. What is the average farm size in this area for a single or family only operation. Are mega farms with permanent employees much different than multiple single farms with identical management from an economics perspective? Both volume discounts and spreading fixed costs are obviously an advantage but have acres to family supported really changed that much?
