It doesn't require vertical integration for big at to swallow up acres. There are a lot of 20k, 30k, 50k, and 100k operations out there and they aren't getting smaller. They are gobbling up acres at a very high rate. They get big discounts on inputs and machinery. Better prices on grain because they are a reliable supplier who can move large quantities quickly, etc. The large coops support this type of farming.

There will be a lot of land that changes hands from one generation to the next over the next few years. The inherited only care about money. It will be rented to the highest bidder or sold and probably bought by an investor who will do the same.
