I used to be firmly committed to the idea that cheap commodities drove the US economy. However as time goes on I am starting to lean more towards the theory that cheap credit/access to credit steers this ship. I met with a mortgage banker for a few hours one day and I never considered that viewpoint until he lectured me for a couple hours on his experiences. Eye opening to say the least.
