Iwould think you could swap out the entire feederhouse (12500 on all state ag) fairly easily if you were partial to your machine. Even easier to trade it out on a different 2388. Perhaps your brother would give you a good deal even?
I'm not sure what is most cost effective.
We run a 25' on singles with field tracker with no issues in more hills than you. (You know, the type that upsets the chopper guy) Also run 8-22" corn head so we need singles to fit down the rows in corn.
I know in rougher ground dual axles like to snap.
