You can do seed, fert and chem for an acre of corn for a hundred and some bucks?
That's impressive
Well, let's see.
Seed: 25K pop @ $225/bag = $70
100 lbs N as AA preplant = <$30
100 lbs AMS and 100 lbs MAP post = about $50
12 oz Verdict + 16 oz 2,4-D pre = $20
0.7 qt Brawl II + 1.5 oz Hero banded behind the planter = $6
3 oz generic callisto +1 pt generic s-metalochlor POST = $9
Figure variable machinery costs at $20/acre (depreciation is a fixed cost)
= $205 variable costs gets me a 150bpa APH.
$1.37/bushel variable costs.
Even another $40/acre costs somewhere in there and a 140 bpa yield gets me a variable costs of $1.75/bushel. First digit is a 1.
There will be blood across the corn belt if a red dec corn ever hits $1.75 again. And some of those costs will be less anyway as input prices come down.
Irrigated corn has irrigation costs plus another 5-7K seed drop and 15-20 gallons of UAN through the pivot, but the same chemical cost. Figure another $10/acre for variable machine costs to harvest and haul the extra bushels. Probably gonna get a little drying cost too. But I can expect 225 bpa to spread those out across. Variable COP is still under $2.
