Fredonia, Kansas. (south east Kansas)
Come farm in SE Ks and you may change your mind about big yields. We had the worst corn ever this year. Had some fields in the 70's. Several in the 85 to 90 bu. range . Only 1field in the 120 bu. area. Missed out on every descent rain possible. I agree the hybrids are better, but, they are not bullet proof. Our thin upland soils can raise good corn, but we have to get timely rains or they will go backwards in a hurry.
The only new normal for us is that the corn seed is the most expensive ever and you can still have terrible yields!
