Subject: RE: Greasing Cornheads

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

8130JD - 9/21/2017 20:20 They aren't suppose to be full. Book says just as you see it start coming over the top of the gear to stop. Tech guy told me if too full when they heat up can blow a seal out.

I took a 8 inch piece of 1/4 inch od copper tubing and put a grease zerk on the end of it and stick it thru the hole to the bottom of the gear box and pump grease till it comes up.

Can do it by yourself that way and the grease is basically being fed at the bottom as if you were using the zerk on the bottom of the gearbox.

I got that exact "homemade tool" for added cornhead grease to a leaky old hay rake gearbox.

I did use it for the JD 444 cornhead, this year, but started with 20 pump each, from underneath, then added more grease to the top with copper tubing/zerq tool. (worked good)
