There are some similarities there to 2011. While most areas got rain late 2011 there were small areas that year that had a poor crop. The cornbelt as a whole had some subsoil moisture going into 2012 but not enough and it set the table for what happened. I don't put much stock in year to year comparisons but just something to keep in mind.
