Rains on Argentine Pampas Endanger Soy, Corn Planting: Ministry

Heavy rains in provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Entre Rios jeopardizing 2017-18 planting, Agroindustry Ministry says in weekly weather report.
• NOTE: Soy planting begins late October, corn planting began this month
• Weekend rains in the provinces were ~2-5 inches, expanding area of waterlogged farms
• Many areas have already received more than average rainfall for entire month of September
• Extra rains forecast for spring mean scenario is “critical”
• “I can’t think of a season when we have started with so much excess water,” Esteban Copati, head of estimates at the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, says in interview
• NOTE, Aug. 16: Argentina 2017-2018 Corn Planting Seen at Record 5.4M Ha
