Have done the wire trick in past years.Also remember the wire clips that was available years ago. Poor design is most likely why they changed also. I did replace the tip on the problem one and it seems to have solved the problem. Also was low on xmission fluid. The O ring and backing teflon ring were OK. Nothing like taking a bath in hyd. fluid to start the day. HA
