| Dad and I planted the same seed and pretty much farmed the same, EXCEPT, he was more conservative with his fertilizer and micros. I have a better aph than he did but at $3.50 corn he probably made more. At $8.00 corn I made more.
The key is to trim the expenses so your yield potential is limited by more than one factor.
Kind of an extreme example but I knew a guy that grew a small crop every year. Many poked fun at him. BUT he probably made more than most. His total expense for a corn crop had to be under $50 an acre. $4 for seed, may be a little 24d, maybe not.
Machinery and parts were bought at scrap iron price. If his corn made 100 bu and was sold for $3.50 he netted $300 an acre! | |
