southern MN | I hear of places, maybe the south more so, where land was idle for 15 years, and someone bringing it back into production?
That just isn't here. No one quits farming the land. If it's a field, it gets a crop. People come and go, fortunes are made and lost, liquidation auctions cycle through.
But the fields are always planted by someone, the ground is used for farming. Every year. By someone.
(CRP is making a bit of a liar out of me, but that ground is rented to the govt, so it's not abandoned....)
Didn't mean to state things too strong, but it's something that has always puzzled me. Who walks away from a farm field, abandons the ground, and doesn't get it planted to something? That doesn't happen here.
