![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=38702&type=profile&rnd=743) Southern Illinois | I may have misrepresented what I am trying to do. I am not interested in cutting corners (at least according to my definition), I am wanting to lower my inputs with the explicit understanding that I will raise fewer bushels/acre but at worst, have the same income I did while having higher yield expectations (my APH is solid so if I do drop below APH because of this tactic I still have a solid floor established to limit losses) and at best, raise close to the same bushels as before but increase profits and decrease risk by not having as much money tied up in an asset that can easily be wiped out. I will add, where I farm, I have raised 225 BPA corn (2014 & 2015) and 100 BPA corn (this year) and zero (2012). That wide range of yield variability plays into my decision making. If I was in central IL, had widespread irrigation, etc. I would probably feel quite different. | |
