If not, IMO, you are contributing to the problem you speak of, renting land at little profit. I do understand it, but it is extremely frustrating to see farmer pass their land on to their kids that have no intention of farming or maybe even ever looking at the land. Why, as a farmer, pass on land to someone who doesn't appreciate the asset it is to a farming operation or care about the struggles, blood, sweat, and tears that it took to own it. Why not as a farmer, who knows how important land is to a farmer, work with a younger operation to purchase the land over a period of time and pass on other assets to the kids that don't care about farming. Just my opinion only, and yes, I have a couple landlords that will pass the farm to their kids who live in the city with good jobs and I would love to work out a purchase. | |
