Last week we were scheduling sep contracted loads, and Tyson joslin was already out to the wk of sep 11. Slaughter capacity is being used up, which is going to force an increase in harvest weights, whether its economical for the feeder or not.
If you are not prepared to feed them significantly longer, I think you should get them contracted. If you are inclined to wait and see, at the very least, get some stop gap risk management in place with puts in the 90s. Whatever you can afford. Having a pen of yg 4 and 5 cattle on feed, with the kill plants booked out 3wks, and bids 200$/hd below your breakeven is not a fun position to be negotiating from... | |
