Jesup, IA | Just a few pics taken yesterday. Of course the pics were in the worst spots, maybe 10-15% of the area of any given field looks like this. But then these are in +200 bu APH fields.
Clouded up today, but it looks like any rain will go south. We have had 0.2" in August thus far. I'm thinking precipitation averages are really messing with the trade's perception. A little sliver of Iowa had 10" of rain twenty days ago. But that's not the same as an inch across the state. Most of the state is 2-3" behind for the last 30 days (see map in last pic). And the heat is not stifling. Just 85 degrees with no rain day after day.
I'm thinking some of this crop "here" just went past the point of no return. Notice how the deep rooted beans on the tile lines show up in the first pic.
Of course the national crop size is a product of averages. But then I'm not even in the really deficit area of Iowa. Friday I drove from Des Moines (central state) to home (NE IA). I went through an area that had a few tenths in recent days. It looked so much better. But I suspect "greened up" for a couple days is probably what I observed.
