soy, wheat, cattle, hogs, ect buy on paper? If so(they can by the way), that's what makes it speculation. Grow it once, sell it once, everything else is speculation.
You are right. The only way to not speculate is to market on a pattern. Either market a percentage of your crop the first day of every month from the time you lock in the rent to the end of bin clean out,
Or market a percentage every day of spring insurance and fall insurance,
Or sell it all off the combine,
Or sell quarterly
These are not speculative sales. They are built off preconceived patterns and show a true representation of what the income the farm can actually make
Anything above or below whichever pattern you choose is speculation
Then true to tour post fry, you are a speculator just by planting a crop.
