In order to keep the original look, I have had a couple of my MM tractor generators switched to 12 volt. All you have to do is switch the field coils and swap voltage regulators. I usually hook charger to battery at beginning of year and have never had a starting issue. These tractors do have magnetos instead of point ignition systems.
