SE Indiana
Disks have a small soil contact point, they also push the soil to the side. Both of these events tend to compact the soil. Years ago we had the opportunity to moldboard plow a farm that had just a disk used for tillage for 3 to 4 seasons before. There was a definite compacted layer and the plows would either ride on top of it or go under it. This layer was about 4" deep and left us either trying to turn 4" of soil of 10" of soil. Also was very hard pulling compared to other ground we plowed that year.
