Subject: RE: I hate haying ditches

southern MN
State roads were graded wide and smooth and shallow, but they do have a lot of trash from the heavier traffic.

Township roads are often small steep shoulders tough to cut and tough to bale, not very wide but very steep slopes. My friend talked me into baling his late township cuttings last year, and it was rough on the pickup

County roads like I am on are nicely sloped, mostly 60 foot each side now, and not so much traffic/trash. Pretty easy cutting and baling. Whole lot of beverage containers, plastic and aluminum isn't much of a deal, glass is a bad deal. If you mow and bale every year (even better if you get 2 cuttings) there isn't much of a buildup, and there are folk that walk and collect the aluminum especially in mowed ditches.

About the only bad deal is the glass bottles and the county sprays for thistle and trees (oh that's good...) and they use the chemicals that carry over through the manure and curl beans the following year or two.
