Boone, Iowa | We used to have a 4366 and a 4386. We used a 4166 for a week or so when a bearing went out in the transfer case of the 4366. These had DT466 engines with intercoolers(we added one to the 66). I thought our 43's would outpull a 9130 we demoed one spring. We pulled a 27 ft. 490 disk, a 37 ft Wilrich field cultivator and a Glenco Soilsaver. A few years later we bought a DMI 530B chisel plow for the 4386. We installed the Bosch inline pump set at 230 h.p. and made a world of difference. The IH V-8 engines did not make happy owners. The main problem was fuel leaks developing at the injection pump seal and leaked fuel into the engine oil. Many cranks were destroyed from this problem. They were neat sounding V-8 engines. They came from the factory that allowed them to power on 6 cyls and then 4 cyls as you throttled back, in memory serves me correctly. Many eliminated this feature. | |
