But that will happen whether he uses Jake brakes or the brake pedal. Either way, the baler has no brakes and it could come around on him.

I think the point of his original post is to keep everything slow and under control so he doesn't get into that situation.


True. The difference is as drivers we were taught never to "ride" the brakes. They will overheat and become not work. You can have a jake brake on for a long time and not hurt anything. So you can get in a habit of turning on the Jake and just enjoy the ride. I did anyway. One day the road was wet. I knew what the CDL book said, but turned it on anyway. Not like it was snow or ice or even rain at the time. Happened to look in the mirror and saw the side of the trailer. Got it straight in time. I got a feeling from the original post that the jake would be on for a longer period.
