If that is the case why would they sale balers with automatic chain lube?
Probably for the people who choose to oil the chains. Just because it's an option doesn't make it a necessity. I have yet to see a baler burn up from non lubed chains, and our relative humidity is under 12% more than its over.
The only way to know what works best for you is to not oil one set, record the amount of time the baler runs before chains need replaced and repeat with oiling the next set. Bales don't mean jack, every field is different, big difference in time it takes to make a bale in 1/2T per acre vs 4T per acre crop.
Chains are close to the cheapest wear items on a baler, putting 10 sets on instead of 5 over 30000 bales is small potatoes in the big picture. Greasing the baler twice as often will pay off better than oiling chains in the long run when you don't have to replace $1500 items. |
