On narrow rings, You can get 3 steps per ring, or 4. I recommend 4.
3 is quicker for the able bodied, but an unnatural stretch and it takes me longer to go down then our set of 4 steps/ring because I am holding on to the guardrail pretty carefully. And I'm 32 and plenty fit enough.
