Subject: RE: Ford 8n,9n,2n

The 9N is the oldest from 1939 to 1942 I think, the 2N is from 1942 to 1948, the 8n is from 1948 to 1952. The 9N has a different radiator pattern than the 2N and it has Ibeam front braces to the axle where the 2n has kind of an oval pipe. There may be other differences. I believe at least the early 9N's had an aluminum hood.

The 8N is Ford's product after the breakup with Harry Ferguson. It had a 4 speed transmision rather than the 3 speed, it had a much improved 3 point hitch control, it had completely different front and rear wheel hubs, and at least the later models had the distributor on the side of the engine rather than the front. Ford put both brakes on the right on this model. Again there are probably other differences that do not come to my mind.

As I grew up we had a 1944 2N and a 1952 8N, I have a 2N that is very much like our original 2N. These tractors were a very large part of agriculture in their day. Today they look like toys.
