Central ND | L10 should be old school air-on. About 20 yrs ago they came out with air-off fan drive so if the clutch seals failed, you still have fan capabilities, it just runs all the time. On the old ones, if the seals failed, you had to install a lockbolt to engage the fan. In the case of your L10, the solenoid should receive power when the fanstat tells the fan to engage. If the truck has a fan override switch, that would be the first place to start, however, if it's a power supply issue, the override switch may not be getting power. The right thing to do first is find the fanstat (it will be a temperature-sender looking piece with two wires screwed into the thermostat housing) and see if it is getting power when the key is on. If not, start there. If it does have power with the key, you can use a jumper wire from the alternator to the solenoid in your picture to bypass it and see if you can send air to the fan that way. If you can't get air to the fan by hotwiring the solenoid, either it's bad, or you have air issues. I mention air issues because I had an IH 2500 that had an air leak one time that affected the fan. I don't recall exactly the situation, but I had air leaking down on one side of one of the air tanks, but it wasn't being indicated by the gauges. | |
