After a day and a half of figuring, looking at parts stores, fabricating and assembling, my Spra Coupe 3430 finally has good brakes on the left side. The right side will be a very easy fix now that I've got the bracket partially made. The local parts store had a '98 Ford Taurus rear caliper, with bracket. It has a provision for a parking brake cable, but that will be a project for another day. I've got used to parking on level. The main part of the adaptor bracket is 1/2 x 2 flat bar. I removed the guide pins for the original caliper, and drilled out the threads of the rear hole. I used the hole where the park brake spring anchor was for the front mounting bolt. I made a couple spacers, one of 3/4 flat iron for the rear, and machined a spacer 1 5/16 thick for the front. The calipers are turned with the piston on the outside, so I used a right caliper on the left side. The Cardone number for the right caliper (I used on the left side) is 18-B4536.
The brakes take a little more pedal pressure than the original, because they are smaller and have one piston. I think this is probably better for reliability, because the master cylinder is so small anyway. They release very well, and that's the problem with the original brakes. The Taurus rotor is about a half inch thick, so I'm going to watch the pads closely and not wear them too much. If I replace the pads, I may use the metal plate off one of the old ones for a spacer on the inside pad as a shim. I haven't been in the field yet, but I think it will be a 100% improvement over the original.
