Subject: RE: I do not have black dirt

C IL
Could you give me a name of a common soil in your area? would like to look up the series description and compare it to common soils in southern IL. Say, Bluford/Hoyleton/Cisne/Cowden. These are not your deep black soils like Drummer/Flanagan.

I imagine the rainfall/ET is quite a bit different there due to long summer days and low humidity. We typically have quite a bit of summer humidity. In 2012 as I recall we had a lot of days in the low 100's with, IIRC, humidity in the low teens. Not completely sure about the humidity. I would sweat through a quick dry shirt, hang it up under a tree, and switch to another one, and switch back in 20-30 mins.

There are some pretty tough southern IL soils. Thin white ground. I am sure in the Dakotas, too. Gets more dry the farther west you go?
