NE ND | I have been told that all cummins 855 engines have an 11 gallon oil capacity. I have 2 old trucks with these engines. Haven't thought about it until I changed the oil this spring. On the freightliner the dipstick has hi and low marks and a small hole drilled above the high mark. When I put in 11 gallons it matches with the hole perfectly. Am I to assume that the hole was put in by previous owner and that's the correct high mark?
On an old ford, written on the radiator is 33 qts w/f in white paint. This truck has sit in the shed the last few years but it's gonna get used again this year. I put in the 11 gallons and it shows way over full. Is the dipstick/writing wrong or am I wrong and do some of the earlier 855's have smaller oil capacity?
Freightshaker is an 86, Ford is an 80. | |
