Subject: RE: Burrito inflation

The cost of a regular taco was $1.25 in 2010. By official standards, it should cost a dime more. Oops—it’s now $2 each, a 60% increase, six times the official rate

It's 2017 now and I have Tuesday ritual of driving to my local national taco chain and ordering 6 tacos for a total of $5.89 (that includes tax).

This burrito index is most likely heavily influenced by commercial rents which are derived primarily from real estate values. A taco truck is not real estate, but their competitors are restaurants and they probably have to pay licensing fees which are designed to keep their mobile restaurants cost-competitive with the property tax-paying restaurants in their area.
