I think those of us that went through the 80's learned and made sure we'd never be in that position again.    I don't doubt that some day it will get that bad again, but it will be a whole new generation doing to suffering.    No one who went through it once would be dumb enough to get caught short of cash again.

You actually believe that is true? Adjust for inflation and the cheapest corn was from about 2000-2005. Lots of people were around to remember those times, and yet many of them still did dumb things that they're paying for now. Today's prices aren't good but could be worse.
Lots of other factors entered into the 80's problems besides just low prices.  Interest rates, jump in fuel prices, and in some areas there were poor crops.   Also remember that the government payments weren't all that great either and neither was crop insurance.

And yet, some farmers did just fine in the 80's.

Land got cheap, both to purchase and rent, livestock prices were good, and not everywhere had poor crops. Lots of great opportunities available for those that saved some of those windfall profits from the 70's (which was a bigger windfall than what we have seen in the last ten years) or at least didn't pile on a bunch of debt.
