Nebraska aka the boondocks | Nothing typical about this weather. Corn is John Deere yellow, short and way behind. Many areas are doing record replant, many more are not but are left with a sketchy stand because that was the best option. A lot of corn is now going to pollinate in intense heat that normally doesn't or maybe we won't have a summer. Trying to extrapolate this year to other whopper crops makes little sense, what is the similarity? None for my farm, all those years I had a near perfect stand and although wet the corn had good color. I think the frustration for many is now more expense and they know the top is gone, and yet no weather premium.... or maybe our premium is that the price is not zero. Some call us beggars and crop killlers, guess we are beggars, the taxing entities own our land, we don't own our water and the traders own the crop. So I will beg for "a quarter!" Up preferably! |
