Subject: RE: 1990's: Freedom to Farm, Decoupling

Se wisc.
Complete deregulation of our industry is pie in the sky. I am sorry but I do not have that kind of faith in my peers. I need an outside look of our industry otherwise my kids will have nothing to grow their food with. This comment does not apply to all of us but where money is involved there are enough BTO and STO to mess it up. Depressing I know but those of you that have been farming awhile know what I mean. I recall all the whining when regulation first hit us but in hindsight most was science based and has helped our industry. That is not to say that there was not any mistakes. That being said I am proud of our role in society and do not mean to degrade it's importance. Europe has for years realized this role for the most part and has developed a system that insures ag stays viable in their communities. Deregulation could also end in decreased quality and that would be very bad.
