Subject: Re: CaseIH 10,000 Hour Tractor warranty

Dealer was told about it. Also, he had a copy of the report. We did not trade this tractor based solely on this report. We had spent quite a bit of money on the tractor over the last couple years and decided we had had spent all we wanted to. At some point in time you say "enough is enough". BTW, this was the first time this tractor had been "flagged" for this particualr problem.

Are you familiar with how oil sampling works? Just because something is "flagged" does not mean that a problem exists, just that there is potential for a problem that needs to be addressed.
We have had new tractors come back with a "flag". Normal procedure is to resample the machine. Many times that sample will come back ok. Could even be a mistake by the lab, we have had that happen. We have one tractor that will come back with a "flag" every sample and has been for over 2,000 hours. The levels of "bad" contaniments have remained the same over that period & the tractor is still going strong. If & when those levels change we will then be concerned, untill then the service manage says to run it.

One thing we have learned from oil sampling is that we cannot run our engines as long on oil & filter chnages as the manufacturer recomends. The oil samples would come back "flagged" when changed at the recomended intervals but would be "green" when changed 50 hours sooner. Based on that we have gone to a service interval for engine oil & filters at 50 hours less than recomended.
