Never understood the questions on planting depth.

Don't you plant for it to come up? Not what some textbook says. Ive planted beans from where you could almost see them too 3-3.5" deep. Must be a HERE thing but I have seen more than once plant with the depth all the way back on beans to get to moisture.

I disagree on a set depth to get some up and others when it rains. That can be a cluster~~~~ if too much or not enough rain falls. Clay ground bean HERE will come up even if it takes a shovel to find them. In sand, if they struggle, you are screwed from the start.

If in doubt, plant deeper. Id rather lose a stand to them getting nailed by an unexpected rain than too shallow, stand and vigor loss from setting in the ground for three weeks(possibly at high daytime temps) waiting on a rain that may be too little or too much.
