Right or wrong, What I've been doing is to "Suspend Event" then when I go to select Event, and I select the "same start time and date" for that same field (Don't create a new event) then it comes up showing the Seed Corn or Soybean variety , THEN that is when I select my NEW variety number(from dropdown box) {Note: I had previously entered any new seed numbers, at beginning of each planting year, thus my new number is already in my dropdown box}

Now, when I start planting , the larger map shows a different color (Red), in the same field and my autoswath/row shutoffs works as normal.
