We try to keep the roller directly behind the planter (within a few hours). Only rolled once after they were up, at whatever stage we were told would be best, and I can't say for sure what the yield loss was but there was obvious damage. If we don't get them rolled within 24 now we don't bother. It will work great for what you're doing though.
