One major packer put more than 30 dollars per head freight on some cattle that weighed less than 1165 before the shrink. You do your own thinking here but I don't remember these type stories 3 or 4 years ago. Packers are very profitable and need beef.


Don't get me wrong, I want price to continue up. I'm not even bearish, though going short. Technically I'm still long calf crop, all of it, just wanted to take some risk out. Whoever sold me those calls has risk and whoever bought/buys the contracts has risk now. I have less.

Roll on cattle market.
